You may refer to pages 10 and 11 in the attached publication below for more pictures and reading. The students from St Monica鈥檚 College shared their reflections and images from the event. This program was hosted as a part of the Interfaith Youth Forum project, proudly supported by the Victorian Government.
鈥淭he Ramadhan dinner was very interesting. The sense of community was great when they gathered and broke fast together and then prayed together. I noticed the similarities between Ramadhan/Muslim traditions and Catholic traditions. At Church we gather as a community to pray quite similarly to how the Muslims prayed at Ramadhan. They also broke fast together which can be related to communion which occurs during mass and the period before Easter; Lent, when we give up certain things or even fast and make other sacrifices.
It was humbling knowing that this Muslim tradition was to help experience gratefulness for the things we have in everyday life we take for granted and to help sympathise with the poor or others without the luxuries we have. The Ramadhan tradition shows us how despite our differences in religion or belief we have many of the same values. Lastly, it cannot be left out that, the food was delicious.鈥
