We have finally been able to have our students back on campus just in time to celebrate Book Week! The theme for this year is "Curious Creatures, Wild Minds".
2020 is a year like no other we have experienced so, lets really get into this celebration of LITERACY! Below is information about the various activities that are occurring at the College, over the course of this week, to highlight reading and literacy:
- 鈥楳asky Monday鈥-Character Mask Day 鈥 Monday, 19 October
Students from Foundation to Year 5/6 will craft masks of their favourite book characters or characters that they imagine when they hear the theme of Book Week. These masks can be worn during the Book Character Parade on Thursday, 22 October.
- 鈥楽ensational Spoonville鈥 鈥 Tuesday, 20 October
The wooden spoon gardens are an inventive way of keeping people connected amidst this isolating time. They're the colourful handcrafted spoon characters emerging in Melbourne nature strips aiming to brighten up the neighbourhood while offering a burst of enjoyment for children during remote learning. We decided to create our own, 糖心vlog破解版 Spoonville using our theme for Book Week. The students will decorate spoons and place them in a designated area around the campus.
- 鈥楻eading Has No Age Barriers鈥 鈥 Wednesday, 21 October
It has been said that, 鈥淚t takes a village to raise a child鈥 likewise, 鈥淚t takes a family to educate a child!鈥 At Al SIraat College we believe that our children are all family and they help to encourage the younger and older students to become more fluent readers. We have created class reading buddies to promote fluency and to motivate our students to be better readers.
- 鈥楤ook Character Parade鈥 -Thursday, 22 October
For this event, students can dress up as their favourite storybook character or a character based on the theme, Curious Creatures, Wild Minds. They will parade around the school passing each primary classroom as we are forgoing large assemblies. Parents are encouraged to assist the students in creating costumes that will be memorable. However, please note that due to ongoing COVID restrictions, parents are not permitted to be on site this year.
